On February 12 Al Green reaches #1 with “Let’s Stay Together” …

On February 12, 1972 Al Green tops the Billboard Hot 100 chart with “Let’s Stay Together,” remaining on the chart for 16 weeks. It was ranked as the 60th greatest song of all time by Rolling Stone magazine on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Furthermore in 2012 the Library of Congress selected the song as a 2010 addition to the National Recording Registry. Songs selected for the National Recording Registry are selected annually due to being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
