On May 12, 2009 “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” premiered on Bravo.
“The Real Housewives of New Jersey” is the fourth installment of “The Real Housewives” franchise, with its season one cast including: Caroline Manzo, Jacqueline Laurita, Teresa Giudice, Dina Manzo, and Danielle Staub. When it debuted, it was the first installment to feature housewives who were related to each other. Caroline and Dina were sisters, who themselves were married to brothers, while Jacqueline being their sister-in-law, married to Caroline and Dina’s brother. The first season was a hit, averaging over 2.5 million viewers. It featured the now infamous (and pop culture stable) scene in which Teresa Giudice and Danielle Staub got into a heated argument, resulting in Teresa flipping a table while yelling, “prostitution whore” at Staub, as well as Caroline Manzo saying the also now infamous (and pop culture stable) line, “we’re thick as thieves,” referring to her family.
The infamous table flip:
Following season two, Staub and Dina Manzo departed, and were replaced with Melissa Gorga and Kathy Wakile. At the time of their addition, “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” featured housewives who were all married, the first in the franchise. Season three was also notable due to Giudice being upset that Gorga (her sister-in-law) and Wakile (her cousin) joined the cast behind her back, seeing how she wasn’t in speaking terms with them.
Season four’s intro:
“The Real Housewives of New Jersey” returned in 2014 for season six, with original housewife Dina Manzo returning to the cast.
