The song spent two weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and was the first of five songs from The Supremes to reach number one (“Baby Love”, “Come See About Me”, “Stop! In the Name of Love”, and “Back in My Arms Again” followed next respectively). Originally the song was meant to be recorded by The Marvellettes, but they rejected the song due to them thinking it was childish in nature.
