On September 6, 1983 Cyndi Lauper released “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.”
The single, taken from Lauper’s album, “She’s So Unusual,” has become one of Lauper’s signature songs, as well as a feminist anthem. The single was a critical and commercial success, receiving two Grammy Award nominations (for Record of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance), as well as becoming a number one hit in various countries. It’s been labeled by both MTV and Rolling Stone as one of the greatest pop songs of all time, and covered by over 30 artists.

Random Pop Culture Fact: Lauper’s parents in the music video include former WWE/WWF wrestling manager “Captain” Lou Albano, and her own mother, Catrine. It was during this time that Lauper began to appear on WWF television during its “Rock ‘n” Wrestling Connection” phase.
