On December 31, 1948 Donna Summer (born LeDonna Adrian Gaines) was born.

The five-time Grammy Award-winning singer is best known for defining the 70s, a time when disco was at its prominence, with such notable hits as “I Feel Love,” “Love to Love You Baby,” “Last Dance,” “Hot Stuff,” “Bad Girls,” “and “On the Radio.” In addition, “I Feel Love” is often considered by music critics as the start of electronic dance music (commonly known as EDM). Throughout her career she was labeled the undisputed “Queen of Disco,” had three albums reach the number-one spot on the Billboard 200 album chart consecutively, and sold over 130 million records worldwide. Summer died in May 17, 2012 from complications of lung cancer, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
