The Colombian and Lebanese singer has had a career spanning 25 years, incorporating both Latin and Arabic influences in her music — as seen through her well-known belly dancing.

“Ojos Asi” by Shakira, released in 1999 — becoming one of her most notable hits in Latin America. The song is known for fusing elements of both her Latin and Arabic background:

Having been successful throughout Latin America in the 1990s with her debut albums “Magia” and “Peligro,” Shakira crossed over into the English-language market with her 2001 album, “Laundry Service.” The album helped cement Shakira as an international superstar, with the lead single, “Whenever, Wherever,” selling over 10 million copies worldwide. Other notable hits include “Hips Don’t Lie,” as well as “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).” The latter was the official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and eventually became the best-selling World Cup single of all time.

Throughout her career she’s sold over 60 million albums and singles worldwide, won two Grammy Awards, eight Latin Grammy Awards, five MTV Video Music Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, 28 Billboard Latin Music Awards, as well as awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
