On March 21 “The Real Housewives of Orange County” made its debut…

On March 21, 2006 “The Real Housewives of Orange County” premiered on Bravo.

The series, set in Orange County, California, is the first of “The Real Housewives” franchise (deemed the flagship show), with its ninth season premiering April of 2014. The series was inspired during the time the series’ “The O.C.” and “Desperate Housewives” were at their peak in terms of popularity. Bravo saw this as an opportunity to create a reality show that actually focused on the real lives of individuals similar to the aforementioned series’. In the earlier seasons, the series focused on the moto “behind the gate” in regards to the private community of Coto de Caza, and later expanding to various cities within Orange County. The Orange County housewives are often set apart from others due to their general and stereotypical characteristics of “tan, ‘big breasts,’ and blonde hair,” — as deemed by media outlets. The current housewives (as of season nine) are Vicki Gunvalson, Tamra Judge, Heather Dubrow, Shannon Beador, and LIzzie Rovsek.

Vicki Gunvalson is currently the only original housewife from season one, often dubbed by Andy Cohen, as well as viewers, as “The OG from the OC.” To date, she is the longest standing housewife of all cities.
