On May 25, 2004 Madonna canceled her three shows in Israel from her “Re-Invention Tour.”
According to Madonna, she canceled her shows due to the violence that was occurring in the region, specifically the killing of the leader of the militant group Hamas. Her manager had advised her to not travel to Israel. Madonna, whose tour had 56 security guards, supposedly canceled (according to London Tabloids and the Associated Press) due to a Palestinian terror group who threatened to kill her and her kids. As a precautionary measure, the tour’s shows in Israel were subsequently canceled. A source close to Madonna stated she was simply targeted due to being a symbol of the West, and not due to her Jewish faith, Kabbalah.
