The singer-songwriter, whose career spanned close to 60 years, was considered a pioneer of soul music, attaining over 30 Top 40 singles in the United States, being featured in over 250 albums, as well as being a 17-time-Grammy-award winning artist. Some of his most popular songs include (and not limited to): “Georgia,” “Hit the Road Jack,” and his rendition of “America The Beautiful.” He passed away on June 10, 2004 at the age of 73 from acute liver disease.
