On October 25, 2002 Christina Aguilera released “Stripped.” “Stripped” was used by Aguilera to help her transition from her teeny popper image (which was established by her debut album “Christina Aguilera” and single “Genie In A Bottle”), to a more mature sound, in which Aguilera took creative control, and established her alter ego “Xtina.” During the creation of “Stripped,” Aguilera took control of the album from both a lyrical and musical perspective. Musically speaking, “Stripped” incorporated various musical influences aside from pop, such as rock, hip hop, soul, and Latin. From a lyrical perspective, Aguilera focused on the issues of self-respect and feminism, touching upon the challenges she faced growing up.

The album itself debuted with first-week sales of 330,000 copies sold, and ended up selling over 12 million copies worldwide. It received positive to mixed reviews from critics, as well as being nominated for various Grammy Awards (and including one win for Aguilera for Best Pop Vocal Performance for “Beautiful”).

Some of Aguilera’s most signature hits were included in “Stripped,” such as the hip-hop dance track “Dirrty,” the pop ballad “Beautiful,” and rock-pop song “Fighter.”
