On December 14, 2001 the comedy film “Not Another Teen Movie” was released. The film was released when young-adult/teen movies/coming-of-age films were seeing a resurgence in the late 90’s/early 2000’s, which the film itself parodies, as well as various popular 80’s teen movies.
Many of the characters featured in the film were based on various stereotypes such as “the popular jock,” ” the meanest girl in the girl,” “the pretty ugly girl,” “the obsessed best friend,” and many more. The plot is loosely based on “Can’t Hardly Wait,” “Pretty in Pink,” and “She’s All That,” while referencing other movies like “Cruel Intentions,” “The Breakfast Club,” “Varsity Blues,” and “Never Been Kissed,” as well as many others.
