On March 18, 1970 Queen Latifah was born. She is best known as a rapper, actress, comedienne, and television show hostess.

She is often considered one of hip-hop’s female pioneers, paving the way for many other female hip-hop artists. She released her first album at the age of 19, titled “All Hair The Queen,”  which featured the hit single, “Ladies First.”

“Ladies First”:

Besides her musical career, Queen Latifah has acted in both television and film. She had a starring role in the 90’s sitcom “Living Single,” in which she also wrote and sung the theme song.”Living Single” lasted five seasons on Fox, as well as garnered high ratings.

In film, she had high-profiled roles in “Set It Off,” “The Bone Collector,” “Chicago,” “Hairspray,” and many more.  For her role in “Chicago,” Latifah was nominated for a Golden Globe and Academy Award for Supporting Actress for her role as Matron “Mama” Morton.

In addition, she was the host of her own talk show on CBS called “The Queen Latifah Show,” for which she’s won a People’s Choice Award for “Favorite New Talk Show Host.” During her career she’s earned two Screen Actors Guild Awards; two Image Awards; a Grammy Award; and nominated for an Emmy Award, Golden Globe, and Academy Award.
