On April 25, 1917 jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald born. She is often referred to as the “Queen of Jazz,” for her vocal range spanning three octaves, and for her ability to carry a tune and maintaining the beat of a song. She is considered one of the greatest singers of all time, winning 14 Grammy Awards, selling over 40 million records worldwide, and being awarded both the National Medal of Arts and Presidential Medal of Freedom.
