On June 20, 1992, “I’ll Be There” by Mariah Carey was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, making it her sixth number one single.

The song, originally sung by The Jackson 5, was covered by Carey solely for her MTV Unplugged special.

It received a high amount of popularity from her fans, that her label, taking into account the success of her MTV Unplugged special, released the song as a single. It stayed on top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart for two weeks, and earned Carey two Grammy Award nominations.
