On December 7, 1979 “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” was released. The science fiction film was released by Paramount Pictures, and acts as a sequel to the television series, “Star Trek.” The film is set in the 23rd century where the USS Enterprise, lead by James T. Kirk (William Shatner), leads a team to save Earth from the powerful alien cloud V’Ger as it’s approaching Earth, while destroying everything in its path.

The film received mixed reviews, but ultimately made over $139 million worldwide, with a budget of $46 million, and spawned a sequel, “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.”
