On January 25, 1949 the first Emmy Awards ceremony was held. The ceremony, which was held at the Hollywood Athletic Club, was created by the Los Angeles-based Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. In addition, only shows that were produced in Los Angeles County were eligible to win, with the ceremony airing solely in the Lose Angeles market.
