On January 29, 1954 Oprah Gail Winfrey, better known as simply Oprah, was born. Oprah is a talk show host, actress, producer, as well as a philanthropist. She is best known for her award-winning talk show, “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” which was the highest rated talk show of its kind in history. Since 2000, she’s published her own monthly magazine, “O, The Oprah Magazine,” which is catered towards women. The magazine is known for Oprah posing for each monthly cover solo, only sharing the cover twice (both times in 2009), once with First Lady Michelle Obama, and the second time with comedian Ellen DeGeneres. She is constantly ranked as one of the most influential people in the world (as well as the most influential woman), and is currently the United States’ only black billionaire. Her influence and enthusiasm over things she endorses is sometimes labeled “The Oprah Effect.” Case in point, her support of Barack Obama, by estimate, gave Obama one million votes, securing his presidency.
In January of 2011, she launched her own channel, “OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network,” an American entertainment network.
