On February 12, 1972 Al Green topped the music charts with “Let’s Stay Together.”

The single, featured in the 1971 album of the same name, topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts for 16 weeks, becoming the only number-one hit for Al Green. Since its release, it was selected as a 2010 addition to the National Recording Registry by Library of Congress, as well as listed as number 60 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of “500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”
