On February 23, 2000 Christina Aguilera won the Grammy for Best New Artist, her first Grammy.
She was nominated alongside Britney Spears, Kid Rock, and Macy Gray. At 19 years old, Aguilera became the second youngest person to win a Grammy, as well as the youngest of Latin descent to do so. At the time of her nomination, Aguilera only had two singles released for consideration, her number-one singles “Genie in a Bottle” and “What A Girl Wants” (her debut album released in 1999 missed the cut off point to be nominated).
Since her first Grammy, Aguilera has gone on to sell over 100 million records worldwide.
