On March 19, 1935 the board game “Monopoly” was first published.
The board game, which is currently produced by toy company Hasbro,” is named after the economic term of monopoly. Players engage with each other throughout the game by buying and trading properties, until one player is left standing after either buying everyone out, or individuals having gone bankrupt. The end result is to have one player be the sole owner of all the properties.
Random Pop Culture Fact: Charles Darrow, the games inventor, first used materials from his home to develop the first prototype of “Monopoly” in 1933. House and hotels were made out of small wood scraps, while the cards were handwritten.
