On March 24, 1990 the romantic comedy “Pretty Woman” was released.
The film, starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, centered on a Hollywood prostitute (Roberts) who begins to develop a relationship with a wealthy businessman (Gere), while venturing through the various social structures present in Los Angeles.
Directed by Garry Marshall, the film itself has become a pop culture stable, as well as commercially successful. Alongside its positive reviews, it grossed over $460 million worldwide, and is considered the most successful romantic comedy of all time. The film is also considered to be Roberts’ breakthrough role, to which she won a Golden Globe, as well earned an Academy Award nomination.
