On March 30, 1988 the comedy-horror film, “Beetlejuice” was released.
The film, directed by Tim Burton, is about a recently deceased couple who haunt their home and try to scare off the new inhabitants with the help of a “bio-exorcist” named Beetlejuice. The film starred Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Winona Ryder, and Michael Keaton in the role of Beetlejuice.
One of the most famous scenes from the movie was the dinner scene in which the dinner guests become possessed and sing Harry Belafonte’s “Day-o (Banana Boat Song)”:
The film was well-received by critics and won the 1988 Academy Award for Best Makeup. The film was a financial success, earning close to $75 million at the box office (apposed to a $15 million budget), with (as of 214) a sequel in the works.
