On July 8, 1995 Alanis Morissette released “You Oughta Know” from her album, “Jagged Little Pill.” The song, which has become one of Morissette’s signature songs, helped her transition into the alternative rock sound that she is known for today, opposed to the pop style of music she originally started with.

The song has somewhat become a “break up” anthem due to its gritty lyrics. While there has been speculation on who the song is about, it has widely been reported that it is about Morissette’s relationship with Dave Coulier (Uncle Joey from “Full House”).

The song itself was a critical and commercial success, reaching the top 10 in many countries. The song itself won Morissette two Grammy Awards: Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance – Female. 

Random Pop Culture Fact: Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Dave Navarro from Jane’s Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers played bass and guitar on the song, respectively
