On September 17, 1991 “Home Improvement” debuted on ABC, becoming one of the highest rated sitcoms in the 1990s. It helped launched the career of Tim Allen, as well as Pamela Anderson, who appeared for two seasons as Lisa, Tim’s Tool Girl on “Tool Time.” Debbi Dunning then replaced Lisa as the new Tool Girl on “Tool Time,” Heidi.
The sitcom focused on the Taylor family, consisting of Tim (Tim Allen), his wife Jill (Patricia Richardson) and their three children: Brad (Zachery Ty Bryan), Randy (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) and Mark (Taran Noah Smith). The Taylors lived in Detroit, Michigan and had a neighbor named Wilson (Earl Hindman), who often served as the voice of reason for Tim and his family. Outside his family life, Tim is the host of his own show, “Tool Time,” alongside Al Borland (Richard Karn). A recurring theme throughout the series are the misadventures of Tim as he inadvertently causes chaos as he tries to fix various mechanisms around his home (often referring to it as giving them “more power!”), and on “Tool Time.”
